Every student is unique and has different needs. The following is a possible scenario:
• Session 1 Student and Parent Intake
The first session entails gathering and evaluating information from parents and student about academic records, standardized test results, awards, extracurricular activities, community service, career and college major interests, special talents, and financial concerns.
• Session 2 Overall Planning
Based on the student/parent information and interviews, your coach will analyze your individual strengths and weaknesses, develop a plan of action, and during the second session will guide you through an overview of the college application process. Your coach will work with you to set a manageable schedule ensuring you stay organized and on-task, meeting test and application deadlines.
• Session 3 Resume
Your coach will recommend high school academic courses, summer enrichment programs, extracurriculars, and community service projects. She will work with you to highlight your unique personality, activities, and achievements so that you can create a resume that emphasizes your unique “hook” and has a lasting impression.
• Session 4/5 Essays
Your coach will help you brainstorm and outline attention-grabbing essays that will emphasize your personality and make you a standout.
• Session 6 College Choice
Your coach will help you develop a list of academic, social, and financial best fit colleges which have your top majors, incorporating stretch and back up schools.
• Session 7/8 The Application
Your coach will go over The Common Application, your state application, and any private school applications - sharing tips, do’s and don’ts, and fine-tuning the process.
• Session 9 Supplemental Essays
Competitive colleges may require as many as 4 or more short and long essays. This is the most time consuming aspect of the application. Each essay must be well thought out and crafted with care.
• Session 10 Finalize the Package
Each application will be checked and double checked for errors. You and your coach will submit one or more applications together, insuring no computer glitches or payment problems.
• Other Sessions
Many students will have college interviews with alums. Through a mock interview, your coach will help sharpen your interview skills so that you better understand the questions, and learn to respond appropriately to highlight your strengths.
Your son or daughter will take a 2 and 1/2 hour aptitude test that will show what you naturally do well, so we can match you to your best-fit personalized career path.
